Hong Kong Chinese Industry & Commerce Association (HKCICA), under the guidance of the Management Committee of Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District, recently held the 2023 International Summit on Frontier Technology & Industry Development in Shanghai. The Summit aimed to create a platform for face to face exchange between government officials, innovative technology enterprises, and research and development talents. It sought to further develop a frontier technology ecosystem, facilitate project collaboration and implementation, drive industrial upgrades, enhance the core competitiveness of the technology sector, and foster innovative cooperation between Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Under the theme "Focusing on Frontier Technology, Sharing Development Achievements", the forum brought together government representatives, technology experts, business leaders, and financial professionals. The event aimed to forge new consensus on cooperation, build a new scientific ecosystem, inspire innovation, and create a shared vision for the future. Over 300 guests and representatives from enterprises and institutions such as the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Hong Kong Science Park, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the US China Business Council, Shanshan Capital, and the Jeollanam do China Office attended the summit. They focused on the transformation of industry academic research achievements, industry finance collaboration, and financial investment. Discussions covered an array of aspects including industrial innovation, business environment, technological innovation, industrial empowerment, policy support, and technological collaboration.
The successful event received congratulatory messages from John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and an online address from Horace Cheung Kwok kwan, Deputy Director of the Department of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Cheung stated that the summit gathered experts, scholars, and industry leaders from various fields of innovative technology to discuss the latest developments in science and innovation, providing a valuable platform for exchanging ideas, sharing experiences, and exploring cooperation opportunities. Leung Wing On, HKCICA President, stated that HKCICA will leverage its connections to the Mainland, its base in Hong Kong, and its global links to serve society, continually promoting economic and trade exchanges and technological cooperation between Shanghai and Hong Kong with an aim to support the development of Hong Kong as an international innovation and technology hub and Shanghai as a globally influential science and technology innovation center. A representative from the Management Committee of Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District noted that, as the competent supervisory authority for HKCICA’s Shanghai Office, they will actively support the Office in conducting economic and trade exchange activities between Shanghai and Hong Kong. The goal is to consolidate efforts from all parties and internationally promote the high level construction of the Hongqiao International Central Business District, striving to create a vivid example of advancing Chinese modernization.
