This window is for residence permits for personal matters (family visits/other personal matters). Please be aware of the following information. Thank you for your cooperation.

I. Who can apply:

1. Spouses, children under 18, parents and parents-in-law entering China to visit a foreigner with a Shanghai residence permit;

2.Foreigners entering China for nursing and accompanyingforeign patients who hold residence permit for personal matters (marked ″Medical Treatment″);

3.Foreigners entering China for private affairs.

II. Documents required:

1. The applicant′s original, valid passport and visa;

2.A completed Visa and Residence Permit Application Form for Foreigners, and the applicant shall go to the local exit-entry administration of public security organs in person to take a free photograph, or the applicant who meets the relevant requirement of applying for visa without coming in person shall submit one color identification photo (taken within 6 months, white background, 2-inch, bareheaded, without modification, photographic paper printed, without smears);

3. A health certificate issued by a domestic entry-exit inspection and quarantine department within the past 6 months (applicants under 18 and over 70 are exempt from this requirement);

4. An original and photocopy of the valid passport and residence permit of the visited or accompanied person;

5. Supporting documents consistent with the reason for application:

(1) Applicants qualified under Article I1shall submit a letter verifying familial relation issued by the visited person (indicating familial relation with the visiting person and the full name of the organization or school of the visited person)and a familial relation certificate (required only for first-time applicants unless the visited person has changed);if visiting a foreigner with a Shanghai residence permit for private affairs (property purchase), shall further submit the original and photocopy of his/her property ownership certificate or notarized property purchase contract;

(2) Applicants qualified under Article I2shallsubmit a letter verifying familial relation issued by the accompanied person (indicating familial relation with the accompanying person and the full name of the hospital or medical institution the accompanied person attend)and a familial relation certificate (required only for first-time applicants unless the accompanied person has changed);

(3)Applicants qualified under Article I3shall provide supporting documents, application letters or guarantees relating to the reason for application.

Notes: 1. Applicants entering China with anS1 visa may be exempt from submitting proof of family relationship;

2. A familial relation certificate may be issued by a government department of civil affairs, health or public security, a notary, or the embassy or consulate of the applicant′s home country in China.If the relevant certification includes an additional certificate issued by a signatory country to the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (hereinafter referred to as the Convention) and is verified to be true, it is exempt from embassy or consulate authentication abroad. For non-signatory countries or documents from signatory countries not covered by the Convention, the embassy or consulate authentication procedure still applies. Non-Chinese documents require a Chinese translation issued by a qualified domestic translation institution.

3. In-person application is required for applicants aged 16-60 years for the first time. Subsequent applications may be made by the applicant′s organization (school) or a relative by providing relevant documents, or online appointment is available at our E-government platform or entry-exitadministration (https://gaj.sh.gov.cn/crj/). A medical examination certificate is not required for residence permit renewals within three months of expiration.

4. Exit-entry administrations of public security organs may, as they deem necessary, require applicants to attend an interview or submit additional supporting documents (such as proof of financial support, proof of change of information such as name, or business operation certificate, etc.). Applications which fail to provide the requisite information within the required time will be rejected, unless caused by a force majeure event.

5. All decisions of exit-entry administrations of public security organs rejecting applications for extension, replacement or re-issuance of ordinary visas, or rejecting foreigners′ applications for residence permits or permit extensions, shall be final.

Exit-Enter Administration Corps of Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau (PSB): Monday to Saturday, 9:00-17:00 (except for statutory holidays; Saturdays for document acceptance only)

IV. Processing time:

Within 7 business days for applications with complete documents required.
